From the outset ethical sourcing of products and minimizing our carbon footprint have been at the heart of our business’ beliefs.

Ethical sourcing of products means ensuring that all raw materials are not illegally obtained or limited in supply. Our wood is either recycled wood, or timber sourced from plantations in Indonesia; other materials are abundant or considered waste or nuisance materials (for example water hyacinth blocks rivers effecting fishing and farming and damages boats); and our stone carvings are from stones that are plentiful in supply and often excess portions.

As an example or our efforts to ensure the raw materials that become these wonderful artefacts are sourced ethically we often use recycled wood and timber which is often bought from old homes, buildings and structures throughout Indonesia. Some of our current products feature teak wood purchased from villagers whose homes were destroyed during the Java earthquake of 2006, with the proceeds offering the villagers the opportunity to rebuild new homes where otherwise they would have limited ability to do so.

Minimizing our carbon footprint is an ongoing process which will help offset our carbon emissions. Kembali will plant new trees and plants in Indonesia for each trip or shipment we make from Indonesia to the UK.  We hope to set-up a similar scheme in the UK in the near future.
